Who
we are
Welcome to Calvary
Fellowship
We meet together for the purpose of worshipping
our Lord Jesus Christ, partaking of the communion table,
and instruction from the Word of God.
Our Vision
To fulfill the great commission by making
disciples and teaching the things that Jesus
commanded. to see every member grow in the
knowledge of God and to be conformed to the image of His
Son. To raise up children, youth, and young adults
with a passion for Christ and compassion for
people. To serve the Shoals area and the nations as
a community of believers committed to prayer.
Who is pastor?
We currently have two Elders who pastor
this church. WE believe the Bible teaches that
local church congregations should be lead by two or more
Elders who pastor and oversee the church. These
Elders preach and minister in our weekly meetings.
They also meet weekly to pray for this church.
These men have been raised up from within this local
church and are chosen with the help of outside prophetic
oversight. They essentially serve for life.
(Acts 14:23, Acts 20:17, Acts 20:28, Phil. 1:1, and Titus
1:5)
Gary DeVaney: Gary was ordained as an elder
in 1988. He recently retired from BellSouth after
33 years service. He and his wife, Tommie have been
married for over 35 years. They have one daughter,
Cali who lives in Nashville, Tennessee.
Parke Crisler: Parke was ordained as an
elder in 1989. He currently works at ECM Hospital as a CT
Tech. He and his wife Katherine have been married for
over 30 years. They have one daughter, Brianna who
graduated from Bellhaven College in Jackson, Mississippi
and one son, Daniel, who attends the University of North
Alabama.
Who are the deacons
and what do they do?
Calvary Fellowship currently has four
deacons. These men oversee the physical aspects of
Church life. They are responsible for decisions
related to the upkeep and improvement of the physical
facilities. They are:
Tommy Johnson: Tommy and his wife Jackie
have 3 girls, Sarah, Abigail, and Catherine. Tommy is an
Electrical Engineer with TVA.
Dave Henry: Dave and his wife Barbara have
one son, Caleb. Dave is a Park Ranger with Natchez Trace
Parkway.
Daniel Ledford: Daniel and his wife Tangela
have two daughters, Natalie & Jasmine. Daniel
is a Technical Supervisor with B. Perry Enterprises.
Bob Lynn: Bob and his wife Carol have one
son, Robert. Bob is a Heating and Air Tech with Stone
Webster.
These Deacons have been selected from within this
local church with the confirmation of outside prophetic
oversight. These men may ask other members of hte
church body to participate in helping accomplish some of
the physical needs of our church. All church
members are encouraged to help these men whenever needed.
What is the order of
service?
In keeping with the teachings of the New
Testament, we desire the leading of the Holy
Spirit. The Scriptures teach us to "enter His
courts with praise." Therefore, we start the
meeting with praise and worship. One of the Elders
preaches each week. All members of the body are
encouraged to exercise their giftings in an appropriate
manner. All ministry should be directed toward the
encouragement and building up of the Church body.
Any prophetic utterance that will change the direction of
the meeting should be checked with one of the Elders
first.
How are moneys used?
Major money decisions are made by the CFC
Board, Gary DeVaney, Parke Crisler, and Tommy
Johnson. Some money is used for the upkeep and
improvement of the physical facilities, although the
building itself is paid for.
Much of the money collected in offerings is
used to support God's work in our community, our nation,
and our world. We desire to see God's message of
redemption proclaimed to all people. To accomplish
this, we support various missionaries and Gospel
organizations in our nation and around our world.
Many missionaries have been sent out from this church
body, and we desire to see many more sent to all
nations. A semi-annual financial report is made
available to our members.
What
activities are available for children?
Sunday School classes are available for ages 2
through adult. Sunday School meets from
9:30AM-10:30AM. We think it is important for
children to be with their parents during the worship time
and accordingly there is no nursery care during the
worship time. Following the worship time, there is
nursery care for children 0-2 years old.
There are regularly scheduled children's
meetings from 10:30AM-12:30PM on the first and third
Sundays of every month. This meeting is called,
"The Lord's Training Camp" and is geared toward
first-sixth grades with their own message tailored to
their needs. For ages three through five years, we
have 'Kids for Christ' which meets weekly after worship
for a time of worship and teaching.
Additionally, Calvary
Fellowship Home School is a ministry arm of the church providing
covering and encouragement for parents desiring to home
school their children.
How is Calvary
Fellowship involved in the community?
Involvement in the local community is an
important part of any church's outreach to the world.
Calvary Fellowship values long-standing relationships
with local churches all over the Shoals area. Our Pastors
are involved with the Shoals Area Pastors Prayer
Fellowship.
In addition, Calvary Fellowship is a co-sponsor of
many area-wide crusades and spiritual life conferences.
How do I join Calvary
Fellowship?
Calvary Fellowship is a local expression of
the church universal, which consists of all believers in
Jesus Christ. Therefore, the first requirement for
membership is that the individual be a believer in Jesus
Christ. A prospective member must have accepted the free
gift of salvation and must know that his or her sins have
been forgiven by the sacrifice of Christ on the cross.
The only additional requirement for membership is a basic
agreement with our tenets of faith. Please let one of the Elders
know of your desire to be a part of Calvary Fellowship
Church.
